"I lived in Grangeville for 15 years. I love the country and beautiful winters. I hope to return someday."

"I think Grangeville is a beautiful & peaceful little city. I walked the main street and the people were very friendly toward me. I would love to live in Grangeville."

"My husband and I are moving to Grangeville in the Spring of '03 and can't wait to get there. We visited the area and fell in love with the scenery and of course the people. We have been hoping to find a home where the town's people are welcoming and friendly and we've found just that. Looking forward to making many new friends in the near future."

Living in Grangeville Idaho

There's a little town in the heart of Idaho where the spirit of the West is alive and well.

Border Days Celebration Downtown Grangeville, ID

Grangeville...right in the middle of the state that's second only to Alaska in designated wilderness areas.

Idaho...the state that boasts the deepest gorge in North America, Hells Canyon, which is less than an hour from Grangeville. Five other rivers flow nearby, three of which are also designated wild and scenic.

Grangeville, surrounded by five wilderness areas and four national forests, totaling about 5 1/2 million acres, is a town which enjoys a fascinating history, complete with gold rushes, Indian wars, railroad feuds and all of the colorful lore of the Old West.

If you're lucky, you'll 'top up onto the prairie', as the locals say, just about sunset. A rosy glow blankets the little town whose elevation and poulation meet at around 3500. Grangeville sits on Idaho's major north/south highway, U.S. 95, the major route from southern idaho to Washington or Montana.

It's big country. Grangeville sits in one of the country's largest counties, Idaho County -- bigger than the state of New jersey - yet boasting one of the smallest populations, just 15,000 in the entire county.

Idaho County stretches from Oregon to Montana with more than four million trees growing from border to border. You'll find one stop light in Idaho County.

The calendar of events throughout the year in and around Grangeville reads like an outdoorsman's wish list. Each month is proud to present something to do that most calendars lost track of hundred years ago.

Grangeville...where the welcome mat is always out...where you'll find what you're looking for: good motels, RV parking, shopping, some dozen restaurants and take-out deli-type spots. There's even a restaurant at the top of the hill that still offers bottomless coffee for just 25 cents a cup! Now where on earth but Grangeville would you find that??

Explore Grangeville and let us know if we can make your visit a bit more comfortable. You may decide never to leave!
